This is an electrotype trial piece, in white metal which has been copper coated, for the obverse by James Earl Fraser later used on the famous buffalo nickel which was to be in circulation from 1913 to 1938 and on patterns like P1789/P2025.

It appears that originally, 1911, he designed it as a cent pattern.

This 'electrotrial' is unique and was found in the Fraser estate and sold in Bowers and Merena's 1/85 and ANR's 1/06 sales.
