This obverse die trial, struck in copper or brass, is believed to have been struck from a genuine Morgan dollar probably outside the mint. It is ex 58 ANA, 77 ANA, NASCA 12/78. In the 77 ANA sale it was described as being struck from rusted dies. Note: The genuineness of this piece has been questioned and thus it was not numbered in the new edition of Judd.
