This cent/quarter is not a mint product but is instead believed to have been struck from dies sold by the mint as scrap possibly by Joseph Mickley or Montroville Dickeson.

According to Ira & Larry Goldberg's 2/01 sale, this unique piece was struck from the Browning 5 1806 quarter obverse die and an uncertain reverse die with large fraction type from the 1803-7 timeframe using a classic head large cent as the host planchet.

Its known pedigree is as follows:

Empire Topics #3, Empire Topics #9, Superior's 6/02, Holmes-Goldberg 9/09, Bird-Goldberg 2/20 - PCGS-F2.
