Although described as a regular dies trial piece in aluminum, these were actually deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete sets.

Examples were struck as follows: To see available images, click here.

Copper J1045/P1179 with the following 4 or 5 known.

1) Simpson-Heritage 2/21 - PCGS66RB

2) NERCA 7/79, SRCA 1/81, Goldberg 2/03, Superior 9/08 always in set – PCGS66RB

3) Farouk, Heritage 6/17 as PCGS61BN, Heritage 1/18 FUN - PCGS2BN, cleaned, lacquered and retoned

4) Heritage 8/10 ANA - NGC UNC62BN, apparently struck from business strike dies

5) Scott-B/R 6/75 - XF, believed to be the piece graded PCGSAU58BN, possibly same as #3

At least one of these is a business strike - possibly a mint error on miscut cent stock.

Aluminum J1046/P1180 with only 2 confirmed:

One is ex Brenner-1914 ANS, Brand and the other is ex Woodin, Newcomer. One of these is the coin below.

1) Crouch-Superior 6/77, Simpson-Heritage 9/20 - PCGS66

The Lohr collection had examples of both.
